The Targeting of minority "Others" in Pakistan

Price of book including P&P for UK, Europe, Pakistan and US.

Excerpt from the Targeting of "Minority Others" in Pakistan

With a population estimated at over 187 million and as the fifth most populous country in the world and the second most populous country with a Muslim majority Pakistan has been experiencing a major human rights crisis in recent years. Minority Rights Group International, in its annual State of the World’s Minorities reports for both 2007 and 2008, for example, placed Pakistan in the top ten (out of nearly 200 states) of its lists of states violating minority rights. “The recent wave of intolerance toward minorities”, Ahmed Rashid has argued, “is a sign of the rapid deterioration of the very idea of Pakistan. Many Pakistanis have forgotten that when Muhammad Ali Jinnah founded Pakistan in 1947, it was not partitioned from India to become an Islamic state. It was conceived as a democratic state for Muslims and all minorities, who could live together and worship freely. The white stripe down the side of Pakistan’s green flag represents those minorities, the non-Muslims, who would be forever protected and treated as equal citizens by the majority-Muslim population.

The flag itself illustrates their presence, and is a commitment to their survival. [But] the recent mayhem in the country has been the most disturbing since 1947, because it totally repudiates those founding principles” sharp contrast to the symbolism reflected on the Pakistani flag”. In 2011, Minority Rights Group International “ranked Pakistan as the sixth-most-dangerous country in the world for minorities”, with “Ahmadiyya, Balochis, Hindus, Mohajirs, Pashtun, Sindhis, other religious minorities” listed as those most under threat.

Thank you for reading this and please know that your sharing, liking and commenting on this post goes a long way in helping to give voice to the persecuted.

All proceeds from the sale of the book support the work of the BPCA.  Much of the early sales will be used to support victims of the Peshawar bomb attacks - December 2013.

Opposing Polio - Taliban campaign against health teams

A teenage Pakistani victim of polio (Photo ANJA NIEDRINGHAUS / AP)
Once a worldwide scourge, Polio is now basically confined to 3 countries, Nigeria, Pakistan and Afghanistan.  The World Health Organisation has made a goal of totally eradicating this disease.  Pakistan is one of the key battlegrounds, and the WHO is finding it a struggle.  Malnutrition may be one reason, but for sure, it is the intersection of the war on polio with another war that makes it an especial struggle.   The Taliban has long opposed vaccination programs.  It is unclear whether, like some Islamicists, including a UK doctor, they believe it is inherently sinful (there are Islamic scholars who take the opposite view), but they most certainly claim that it is part of an infidel western plot, and so target vaccination workers, whether Western (or other foreigners) or Pakistani.   They have long claimed that vaccination programmes are a cover for spying, even before the CIA used a fake vaccination program to help confirm Osama bin Laden's location in Pakistan, prior to their assassination of him.  In the tribal areas they control, the Taliban have banned the polio vaccination program, endangering the lives and health of some quarter of a million children.  But they, along with powerful cleric allies, are also gaining success in halting or delaying the program - and so endangering the lives of yet more children - in other areas, by the simple expedient of shooting and / or kidnapping the doctors and health care workers.  In July, a UN doctor was injured in an attack in Karachi.
In October, gunmen on motorcycles shot up a vaccination team giving drops to under 5's in Quetta, and one victim was killed.
Then there was a series of co-ordinated attacks over a 20 minute period in Karachi, a favourite Taliban hunting ground, just yesterday.  Four women workers were shot dead, and the polio vaccination program has been suspended in the city.  Elsewhere, in Peshawar another female vaccination worker was fatally shot - she died of her injuries later that day.
Experts say Pakistan is an especially key battleground against the disease because of the danger of reinfection of other nations.  Recent cases in China came from Pakistan, and the number of children paralysed in Pakistan has been rising, with 200 recorded last year.
The Taliban once again show themselves to be students of evil and death.

Blasphemy, bible, children and sharia: Karachi, Bangladesh and Egypt

As we have seen, Muslim extremists have no compunction in attacking children and the vulnerable. They did it with Rimsha, and now the Taliban have shot a courageous 14 year old Muslim girl as she waited for her school bus, because she has exposed their atrocities and stood up for education for girls and the rights of women which they despise.  The pitiful excuse from Pakistani Taliban?  'Whoever leads a campaign against Sharia and Islam is ordered to be killed by Sharia'.
Oh yes, lets shoot unarmed schoolgirls and claim she was leading a campaign against 'Sharia'.  Was she?  If Sharia involves the oppression of women and the massacres of innocents, then yes she did.
Apparently it is 'obligatory' to kill such courageous people.  They justify it by citing the example of one of the companions of the prophet of Islam who killed his blind wife for using words against the prophet, a prophet who praised that self same act.  It also justifies the killing of the young by referring to an alleged godly and righteous teacher of Moses mentioned in the Koran who killed a child, and justified by saying that the child would bring a 'bad name' upon his godly parents.
This is the kind of pathetic and satanic excuse that these Taliban barbarians use for trying to murder an innocent and unarmed schoolgirl in cold blood.  If you want to read what they said (and their claim that they did not attack her because of her educational work, and that it is all lies of the media - see here.

Christian beaten by Muslim policeman for using same glass as them

We reprint this story verbatim from this source
LAHORE: A Christian worker at a veterinary dispensary building shared by a police post has accused two police officials of beating and humiliating him for drinking water from a glass used by the policemen.
Nisar Masih, assistant at the Veterinary Dispensary at Jandiala in the Narang Mandi police area, told The Express Tribune that he had filed an application on August 4 to the Sheikhupura regional police officer (RPO) against ASI Rana Raees Ahmed, the police post in charge and constable Muhammad Sarfaraz for beating him up for drinking water from a glass he found in front of the former’s office.
According to the complaint, Sarfaraz took Nisar Masih to the office of Ahmed on seeing him drink water from the office cooler. Ahmed asked Nisar Masih about his religion.
When he responded that he was a Christian, Ahmed remarked, “How dare you drink from a Muslim’s glass?” Ahmed then asked Nisar Misih to sit. When he sat in a chair, Ahmed admonished him, “How dare you sit on a chair? Sit on the ground.” Masih said Ahmed also abused and beat him. His ordeal only ended when dispensary incharge Dr Mohsin Farooq Hashmi and two other colleagues pleaded with Ahmed to secure his release. Nisar Masih said, “I approached former MPA Chaudhry Wajid Ali on July 29 to request action against the police officials. He informed the concerned DSP and also forwarded a written complaint.” He said he had stopped going to work since the incident fearing another beating.
ASI Ahmed told The Tribune he had had no objection to Nisar Maseeh sharing their glass when he did not know he was a Christian. “On July 28, there was a complaint and I called him to my office and asked him about his religion. He said he was a Christian, I asked, ‘How come he drinks from a glass used by Muslims?… Christians can’t use utensils used by Muslims.”
He denied that he had abused or beaten Nisar Maseeh. Instead, he said he had complained against him to Dr Hashmi. Ahmed said, “Dr Hashmi said he had no objection to sharing utensils with Christians… I told him to not let him drink water from our glass.” He said I have given the glass to Nisar Maseeh and asked him not to use the new glass.
Chaudhry Wajid Ali said he believed that Maseeh had been humiliated and beaten on account of his religious beliefs. He said the DSP had not responded to his complaint.
Speaking to The Tribune on August 9, DSP Ahsan Ilahi Khokhar said he was posted to the Muridke police circle recently and had not been told of the incident. “We will take action according to law if an excess is made out,” said Khokhar.
However, DSP Khokhar on August 31 denied either being aware of the incident or receiving any application of about the incident.
RPO Zulfiqar Cheema also said he did not remember any such application but he would pursue the matter and would bring the delinquent police officials to book. Chaudhry Wajid said he had given the application to DSP Khokhar and RPO Cheema and that they were deliberately lying.
Pakistan Ulema Council chief Tahir Ashrafi said such an act by a police official was condemnable. He said there was no religious restriction on Muslim to use utensils used by non-Muslims, including Christians. He said if the ASI in question did not like drinking water from a glass used by a Christian, he should have washed it. “However, there is no need to wash it either,” Ashrafi said.

10 year old kidnapped on way to school

A 10 year old Christian girl named Aney Tariq was kidnapped on 4th September while on the way to school in Gujranwala in North East Pakistan.  The same day her kidnapper, Haider Butt claimed that of her own will she had converted to Islam and married him.  The police are doing nothing about it.

Wilson Chowdhry of the BPCA said :

"Once again we have an implausible claim that a 10 year old girl freely agrees to convert and marry an assailant, in an obvious cover up of the serious crime of kidnapping and presumed rape.  It always seems to be the young and vulnerable who suddenly 'of their own free will' convert to Islam and marry their kidnappers / rapists?  Moreover these pernicious rapists try and cover their crime with a cloak of piety."

Pakistani law states 18 is the legal age for marriage, while many Islamic laws state the age is 16.  However many extreme sects of Islam claim that a girl can be married when she first menstruates.  According to her family, even under this paedophile's charter, the marriage was illegitimate as Aney had not started her periods.

The rate of kidnap and rape of Christian girls and women in Pakistan -  and this does not include victims of other minorities - is thought to be at least 2 a day, and most of these cases involve claims that the victims freely converted to Islam and then married (one of) their rapists.

For hatred of a film .... Heil Hitler?

A Pakistani response to that film
For action to take against this image on FaceBook, see the bottom of the article

Also, there is now an update on the situation here.

Few readers will be unaware of the worldwide violent Muslim reaction to the film 'Innocence of Muslims'.  In Pakistan, this included the normal paroxysm of wild conspiracy theories, including the claim by a Muslim leader at a protest that the American establishment had backed this tatty little film - a claim about as far from the truth as it possibly could be - and that therefore not only should every single person involved in the production and release of the film be publicly hung, but then went on to demand that the US implement a law against blasphemy or else they would not allow US consulates in Pakistan to function.  (Source)

In Afghanistan, in typical Islamicist style, the terrorists chose to attack South Africans for the US 'crimes' in a suicide bomb attack that killed a dozen aviators.

As the BPCA reported, it didn't matter that Christians went to protests against the film.  Nuns returning from a protest against the film were fired upon, a typical Islamicist tactic whereby Christians in your own part of the world are to be slaughtered for the alleged crimes (even if they turn out to be a false rumour) committed against Muslims in another area.  For instance, the slaughter of Catholic worshippers at a Baghdad cathedral the other year were in 'revenge' for the totally false claim that Orthodox Copts had kidnapped the wife of a priest who had allegedly converted to Islam.

Reports that the producer of the film was allegedly a US Israeli Jew have given another excuse (if any were needed) to unleash good old fashioned vicious anti-semitism, as the picture above shows. (This appears to be false, it seems the claim was a cover for the real producer, a fraudulent and convicted criminal Copt who has lived in the US for a long time - God help the Copts of Egypt in an already terrible situation.  This is the last thing they need.)  The BPCA were alerted to this image by a supporter.  It was posted by the owner of a Facebook page called 'My Ideology is Islam, my Identity is Pakistan'. The page's about section makes it quite clear that the writer has no place for other religions in Pakistan, and that it's only ideology and identity should be Islamic.  The page typically also spouts viciously anti-Indian racist views.

The discussion under the particular image has many Muslims quite rightly protesting about it's use, but many also calling for the killing of Jews and people associated with the film.  (By the way, the producers deceived the actors involved,  with them thinking it was just an Aladdin type film, and no mention was made of Muhammed.  These were dubbed on later, so most of those involved had no idea what the film was going to be about - for more, see here.  But somehow we doubt that those pouring death threats on the actress featured don't really give two hoots about the facts, or justice).

A later post on the page makes this call : 'What ever religion you are , Lets come and Joint hand (sic) together in these Hard Moments With All Muslims'.  Hard times?  What a laugh.  Hard times is the Christians of the Muslim world who are murdered, kidnapped, tortured and raped on a daily basis, including in this posters beloved Pakistan, but funnily enough this hate-monger never mentions the suffering of Christians in Pakistan.

Take action

The supporter who reported this to us said they had used the 'Report this photo' option using the 'Hate speech or symbol' selection.

The BPCA encourages it's readers who are on Facebook to follow their lead.  To find the post with the image on,
1) type 'My Ideology is Islam, My identity is Pakistan' in the search box at the top of your Facebook page
2) Scroll down to find this post.  The owner of this page posts a huge amount so you will have to scroll down a long way to find it.  It was posted (in Grenwich Mean Time) at about 3pm on Wednesday 19th September
3) Look for the 'Report this photo' option.  In some cases you may have to click the image so it pops up as an image on a black background - in which case, click on 'Options' at the bottom of the photo.  In other cases it will be below and to the right of the photo.
4) Select the second option from the bottom and hit select.
5)  Encourage your friends to do the same

Additional information

Jews in Pakistan were driven out in the late 40's and early 50's and later by violent acts of vicious anti-semitism, and anti-Semitism remains a virulently cancerous part of Pakistani society.   (Source)

The only remaining synagogue was destroyed in the 1980's to make way for a shopping centre, on the orders of General Zia-ul Haq, the same one who also introduced the iniquitous blasphemy laws that are being used to commit religious cleansing on Christians, just as was done to the Jews before them.  The General spitefully ordered this sacrilege just because the Pakistani Jews who fled to Israel called for the synagogues preservation, and as the recent Rimsha case has shown, such spite against other religions is still dominant in Pakistani society today.  (Source)

BBC interviews Rimsha's family

Unfortunately we are unable to embed the video, but the interview is currently showing at this link. Here are first hand accounts of what happened on that fateful day.  They are adamant that Rimsha never had any Islamic textbooks, and that she was at home, not out on the street.  In other words, the entire case is a fabrication from start to finish.

Blind Faith - documentary on blasphemy laws

Apologies about the missing section / rough cut between the two videos, this is how it is on youtube.

On the tactics of blasphemy - Ashrafi's deceptive charm offensive

Tahir Ashrafi (left) with other Muslim extremist leaders

Three articles were brought to BPCA's attention recently.  The first two were articles in the New Pakistan online newspaper by Mahmood Adeel, and ably express why we should be very sceptical about the words of Tahir Ashrafi, the Islam(icist) spokesperson and leader who is widely quoted as being in support of Rimsha.  Basically, it says the case against Rimsha was a PR disaster for the Muslim extremist movement and the blasphemy law, and they have recognized this.  So they are making supportive noises about the Rimsha case, talking of justice, of prosecutions on those making false charges, on the need for full and free investigations by the law and order forces, and the need to curb abuses.  This is a PR tactic to try and blunt our and other calls for the blasphemy laws to be massively reformed or abolished.  It is, in short a manipulative charm offensive.

Christian student kidnapped, tortured in conversion attempt

BPCA has seen reports from another Christian group - Barnabas Fund - that a 20 year old Christian student has been kidnapped by a radical Islamic group in Pakistan.  The group had apparently been trying to convert him to Islam, and on August 29th they kidnapped him.  They chained him up, severely beat him and threatened to kill him.  They may also have given him mind-altering drugs, and although the police found and rescued him and returned him to his family, he has been seriously psychologically affected by his ordeal.  These are all the details given, no doubt to protect the young man and his family.

Hate speech in state text books increases by 270% in three years

A study by the National Commission for Justice and Peace (NCJP) on all ages of state textbooks in Punjab revealed that the instances of hate-speech and indoctrination in such allegedly 'moderate' texts has risen by over 270% in just three years since 2009.  These include instances in grade 1 textbooks, the youngest age.

Their report is entitled 'Education or Promotion of Hatred' and backs up why the BPCA is so concerned that the UK appears to be pouring funds indiscriminately into Pakistani literacy programs.   At the launch report one speaker, Dr Mehdi Hasan, of the School of Media and Communication dean at the Beaconhouse National University, claimed that in Pakistan, Muslims posed a greater threat to fellow Muslims than to non-Muslims.   He stated that Islamic seminaries, which educated only 4% of students, were less of a threat than schools where hate material advocating intolerance was being taught to children as young as grade 1.

Another speaker, Wajahat Masood, an assistant professor, noted that hate content and distortion of history was evident in Pakistani literature as well as curricula.  And Irfan Mufti said that such hate content spoke volumes about an intolerant society.   'Hate content will turn our children into intolerant individuals'.  A sentiment with which the BPCA heartily agrees

Evidence - Orphan Christian boy Suneel Masih killed for his organs

Further evidence suggests that the recently orphaned Christian boy killed in Faisalabad after being tortured, mutilated and burned was killed for his organs by organ traffickers.  The autopsy showed some of his organs were found to be missing.  Suneel Masih's body was found in a drain, the day after he went missing after going to the market to get some food.

Organ trafficking is a massive ongoing issue in Pakistan, especially kidneys, with many cases reported of organ donors being sexually assaulted and held against their will.  Pakistan is a major destination for those seeking black market organ transplants.

It is for cases like these, and that of Rimsha Masih, the equally young girl arrested for 'blasphemy', that the BPCA is holding a demonstration outside the Pakistani Consulate in Manchester on 1st September 2012 from 12 noon to 3pm. Guest speaker David Dean of Nelson.

Nearest major railway station is Manchester Piccadilly.  Ardwick station and Levenshulme station are also close by.

Unholy gang rape and murder of 12 year old Christian girl

Muqadas Kainat - gang raped, throttled

On Pakistan's Independence day (14th August), some Muslim men decided to celebrate by gang raping and murdering a vulnerable 12 year old Christian girl called Muqadas Kainat (which means 'Holy Universe') in an wholly unholy act while her parents were at hospital where her mother was having an appendix operation.  After family realized she had gone missing, her father rushed home to search among neighbours houses in the Brick Kiln works where the family lived and worked.  The next day the Muslim Kiln foreman received an anonymous call on his mobile, stating she was in the fields, and after searching in the local fields they found her body.
The police post-mortem showed she was gang raped - police believe by 5 men - and then strangled.    So far, to BPCA's knowledge, no-one has been arrested.
What a happy and wonderful Independence Day in the nation with the most horribly ironic epithet - the so called 'Land of the Pure'.

The reason this took so long to come out was because the crime happened in Sahiwal, which is somewhat remote.
Please pray for the girls father Rafique Masih, and the mother and other family, and that justice would be done.

1 killed, many injured in police backed Muslim land grab near Lahore

Victim of Muslim land grab

We have reports of yet another violent Muslim land grab.  We don't have any further details, not even names of victims.  Once again, influential Muslims have attacked vulnerable Christians to take their land, shooting many - one victim was killed (pictured here), and another was kidnapped, another with serious gunshot wounds, and 5 others also injured.  The crime happened near Phool Nagar, a large town some 20 miles south west of Lahore.

An FIR has been registered with the police, but the police keep making lame excuses to avoid arresting the influential perpetrators, not least because this theft of 40 acres of land was aided and abetted by police officials, again a far from unknown circumstance.

Pakistan and Zardari listen up!

Here are some slogans that need to be heard
To highlight the wicked and absurd

Pakistan how many innocents have to die
Until you kiss bigotry goodbye?

Pakistan coward state,
Leaving victims to their fate.

Pakistan, we've given you ten thousand chances
How many more disabled have to do their deathly dances?

And to Zardari and the politicians in Pakistan, we are sick of empty words and worthless promises.  Actions and deeds, consistently over time are the only things that will satisfy us.

Words are worthless, words are cheap
A pattern of deeds is what we seek.

Your words are cheap, they cut no ice
Until you truly save a life.

Until you stand for the rights of all,
Your words are fake, they only appal.

Your empty promises do not count, we are witness
What you really do shows your moral fitness

While our lives are cheap, your words are too
Only a real change will do.

Any old fool can request a report
It takes a real man to do what he ought.

Secret plea from victim of blasphemy laws

The family of this Pakistani Christian rights activist secretly videoed his plea for help, under the noses of the prison guards.  The interview is from about 0:55 on, and shows the desperate situation and how effective false accusations of blasphemy, particularly against bread-winners.  In addition it tells of the mistreatment (denial of medication, discrimination and torture) he suffers in prison.

In addition BPCA has seen plea's for prayer for the bail hearing of Mr.Khuram Masih, who has been falsely charged with blasphemy and held in prison for 9 months.  His hearing is in Lahore High court on the 28th of August.

Flight of a flag of false offence

A patriotic family of Christians in Karachi preparing yesterday (8th) for Pakistan's approaching Independence day have paid the price for honouring their nation by false accusations of dishonouring it and blasphemy against Allah.  The whole Christian community in that neighbourhood are threatened with being burned out by Muslim mobs stirred up by hate speech from local mosques.

The family had been washing a Pakistani flag, ready to put it up or hang it out for Independence Day.  Unfortunately it blew away in the wind and landed on a neighbours house.  Even more unfortunately, it was a Muslim neighbour who, leading instantly to claims of blasphemy.  Because the flag had the phrase 'May Allah protect the beloved land' the neighbours had the opportunity not only to claim that the Christians had deliberately thrown it and have disgraced the name of Allah, but they went on to fabricate claims that the Christians had used the flag as a rug, so that they sat on the name of Allah.

There are 15 Christian families in the neighbourhood, known as Qatil Garhi, and after the incident was reported in the local mosques, they are very afraid, because the local Muslims are gathering and using the alleged 'insult' to threaten to burn out all the Christians.

Please pray for them, for peace in every way

Blasphemy mobs, mad behaviour

Over the last month there has been a number of cases illustrating the double or triple jeopardy faced by those accused of blasphemy.  None of them are Christians as far as we know, but their cases show the ease in which inappropriate charges are made, and the dangers of mob rule, vigilantism and of innocents being killed.
These incidents are getting so common, with so many common features, it is sometimes hard to tell whether we are dealing with an incident we've already reported on, perhaps with corrected details, or an entirely new incident.

DRUG ADDLED MAN LIVES IN FEAR IN PRISON AFTER QURAN DESECRATION
A Muslim man who had indulged in drugs in the past in the face of difficult circumstances now lives in fear in prison.  Every time someone comes in to his cell, he cries out 'Don't kill me', fearing it is one of the Muslim extremists who are his fellow prisoners in Karachi central jail has come to kill him, after he obeyed voices in his head telling him to 'do things'.   He was brought to the police station by concerned neighbours, and the police were dubious about his mental state.  However, mobs, stirred up by hate-spewing mullah's and religious extremists, advanced on the police station one night to try and lynch him.   They demanded the police hand him over so he could be killed.  The police have put him in a separate cell with officers standing guard to protect him from fellow inmates.  Psychiatrists say he should be examined for psychotic illness before any possible trial, with human rights activists saying the blasphemy laws don't apply to those who are mentally ill.

MOB BEATS UP BLASPHEMY ACCUSED, EXTREMISTS REGISTER ACCUSATION
In another case, this time in Faisalabad, the police had to rescue a man accused of blasphemy who was being beaten and tortured by a mob.  The mob then staged a demonstration and blocked roads, demanding the man be handed over to them.  An FIR was registered by a member of Tehreek Dawat-e-Islami, an extremist organisation whose workers have been involved in several acts of terrorism over the years.  Police say the man later confessed to blasphemy.

Source

2 CHILDREN KILLED AS MOB ATTACKS POLICE STATION TO GET BLASPHEMY ACCUSED
Finally, there was a case last month in Quetta, when a mob stormed a police station to try and lynch a man - whom the police said appeared mentally retarded -  accused of blasphemy.  The man was mentally retarded, and is supposed to have burnt pages of the Koran.  The protesters were mostly Afghan refugees, who threw stones, torched vehicles and blocked the highway with burning tyres.  They chanted that the man should be stoned for blasphemy, stormed the police station and started firing.  19 were wounded by gunshots, 8 of them police officers, including the bodyguard of a senior police officer as he was hustled to safety.  The police had to resort to volleys of tear gas and gunfire to restore order, and in the melee 2 children were killed.

Source

The BPCA notes these cases and deplores them, in particular the fact that the hate-filled Mullah's and the extremist allies deem it fit to send lynch mobs after mentally ill people.  Better on judgement day to be mentally ill than morally wicked and sick.....
