Today news of the demise of Osama Bin Ladin is reverberating around the globe. A BBC News report this morning described how American special forces undertook a clandestine, planned operation, on a two story luxury building in Abbottabad, a built up region not too distant form the Capital city Islamabad. It transpires that the house in which Bin Ladin was staying was in the middle of a wealthy estate in which many retired Army Officer's lived. American led surveillance form August last year discovered the regular burning of confidential papers, 18ft high walls and lack of internet within Bin Ladin's home. The Pakistani Government is yet to provide a statement on the killing.
The result of the covert attack was the killing of Osama Bin Ladin, 2 other Al Quaeda officers and in a cowardly act of desperation a woman who was being used as a human shield by Bin Ladin was also killed.
4 helicopters were used by US Navy SEAL's (Sea Air and Land) they fired 40 shots in the raid and escaped without any injury. One of their helicopters malfunctioned and had to be destroyed by the Americans. More details of the story can be read by clicking the link below:
A mass murderer has been destroyed - the man who inspired the 9/11 attack on America and 7/7 bombings in London. Yet my heart is in deep fear for the Christian community in Pakistan, already the Pastor Jones Quran burning has intensified polarity in Pakistan, Muslim aggravation on Christian enclaves has increased significantly in recent times and as we speak the city of Gujranwala is being targeted for persecution.
Moreover, the incarceration of Asia Bibi has revealed the pervasion of conservative Islam and the authority of extremists in Pakistan. Despite her innocence and the ensuing support from lead humanitarian figures, mass protest and calls for her death, has lead to the assassination of Pakistan's foremost progressive statesmen and numerous other death threats.
The volatility we have seen in Pakistan is sure to increase substantially, the extremists and al-Qaeda groups will have lost a hero and emblem for their unrighteous cause. Moreover, the main stream Conservative Muslims will be easily led into retaliatory attacks.
The BPCA calls for Christian communities in America and Britain to lobby for protection of the Pakistani Christian Community. We call for wider support for our protest to be held on the 2nd July and most importantly we ask the Global Christian Community to pray for the Safety of our Christian brothers in Pakistan.
