Asia Bibi to be set free!

Asia Bibi - a woman of strong character who by the Grace of God will not enter our book of martyrs!

This morning at 09:00 I received a most satisfying and pleasurable report back form the dedicated European Spokesperson for the newly formed Ministry of Human Rights.  Rubab Mehdi Rizvi confirmed that Asia has received a stay of execution after President Zirdari was moved by the emotional mercy pleas from the BPCA and the Christian Muslim Forum (who responded to our request for support).    The speed of this decision and the immensely positive outcome is remarkable for a case such as this.  The result speaks volumes of the professionalism of Ms Rizvi  who ensured that every figurehead with power of influence receives the collaborative letter espousing the freedom of Asia Bibi.

This truly is a historic moment and one that will shock many Pakistani Christians around the globe.  This is a feather in the cap of the Ministry of Human Rights and a moment to savour for the British Pakistani Christian Association. Click the link below:

Plea Letter from newly formed Ministry of Human Rights

*****this letter was addressed to the President the Prime Minister and all the other figureheads featured in our previous blog story about Asia****

Asia Bibi is now free from the threat of hanging and we have been told it is highly likely she will be set free.  It will then be up to aid agencies to get involved in her safe relocation and to provide support for the family, whilst they find there feet.  We shall also be sending across our donation to the family this weekend.  A tragedy has been averted and much praise should fall upon those that endorsed our petition and sent us letters of support.  We also thank the BBC, Premier Christian Radio, Sunrise Radio and the Evangelical Alliance (South Asian Forum) for the media support provided.

We are going to receive an official letter from the Ministry of Justice shortly that will confirm the decision and our work towards ensuring a mother of 5 was returned to her family safely.  See email received today:

Dear Mr Wilson Chowdhry,

In response to your letter dated 12th November 2010 The Ministry of Human Rights acted upon your concerns and made representation to His Excellency Asif Zardari , the President of Pakistan. You will be pleased to learn that the President has stayed the execution of Asia Bibi.

We look forward to working with organisations such as yourself for the betterment of humanity.

Yours sincerely,

Rubab Mehdi Rizvi
Chief Coordinator and Spokesperson – Ministry of Human Rights

This new government has often spoken about how it wishes to address inequality in Pakistan.  Today by making this decision the President of Pakistan has illustrated his words are not just rhetoric, but are laced with real intent.  I have also received positive messages that we could well expect an announcement of her freedom being returned shortly. Please send as many letters of thanks to the President for the grace he has shown.

Again I reiterate my thanks to the Ministry for Human Rights and the Christian Muslim Forum who supported our campaign - this success highlights the need for better dialogue with our religious counterparts.

continue to pray for her safety - will she be able to live in Pakistan ?

almost certainly they will need to move well away so that other 'muslims' don't feel a need to do what the state has pulled back from doing..

  3. Very well dear Wilson, God is great! Pop has already taken an action against this, and this has widely spread across the globe. Once again thanks for your efforts and other people who are all involved.

  5. There is need to re-evaluate inhuman laws promulgated wrongly in the name of religion. Religion is about life, and does not endorse capital punishments, as said:

  10. PPP always raised its voice for the rights of minorities. Not only BB shaheed but President Zardari also followed the same tradition. In case of Asia Bibi it was Only the President Zardari who proved that he was not a mere drawing room liberal but had the courage to rise to Aasia Bibi’s defence. No one from among the big politicians from small parties like the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, Tehreek-i-Insaf and the Awami National Party raised their voice even after there was international outrage led by the Pope at the Vatican. Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah criticized the governor’s action with his ear cocked to what the Sipah-e-Sahaba would say about the case. The clergy did not take long to respond. There was a collective frog chorus saying the blasphemy law could not be changed after media picked up this case. Finally, I also wonder if the most honourable Chief Justice of Pakistan, who has so often taken suo motu notice of injustices faced by ordinary Pakistanis, feels that the cause of justice was well served when Aasia Bibi was condemned to death for blasphemy.

  13. You need to correct this. She has NOT BEEN RELEASED and still faces the death penalty. She has been 'stayed' which means the sentence is delayed pending further discussion, NOT REMOVED. She is approaching the Lahore High Court for appeal just as violence from fanatics is erupting all over the country as they bay for her blood. The President is being threatened personally if he pardons her and he's already in a dicey political situation. Now is the time to continue pressure not put out false articles about release. If the religious zealots continue, it would be better for the President to let her die and even better if she does so 'accidentally'. She's already been raped by her accusers and her children tortured according to some reports.

  14. Dear Annonymous, This story does not say she has been released, but refers to early murmurings leaked by the government that she would be pardoned. This may no longer be the case, and I have been carefult to mention that only the execution has been stayed. However, you should read further posts and you will discover it was us that released that we believe she has been raped and are not convinced by protective statements form her husband that say otherwise. Moreover, we have arranegd a protest for next weekend. Youmust read our posts more carefully and frequently. Kind regards

    Wilson

  16. Praise be to the God of the bible,Praise to His Son and Praise to the Holy Spirit. He is able to move the hearts of people. He moved the heart of the President Zirdari to stay her execution. Life and death are in His hands.
I ask God to bless Mr Wilson, his family, the British Pakistani Christian Association, the Pope and all the Christian brothers and sisters and I ask God's special blessing to the Christian-Muslim forum where you have moderate Muslims who value the lives of people and don't think others are garbage.I respect these Muslims. I pray that they can see who Christ is by the simple but powerful faith of Asia Bibi.
We pray for God's protection on Asia Bibi and her family when she will be set free. We also pray that God will calm down the anger of extremists who might try to kill her or members of her family.

    1. I have been getting spam from this pastorbashir@gmail.com for over a year. Sometimes he claims to be a missionary in India, sometimes in Pakistan, and even once in Nigeria. I have found his comments and claims on many, many blogs and sites. My own feeling is that he is a scam artist. Personally, I think it unwise to send him any money or anything he can sell to get money without first finding out who and what he really is. Since I myself am a missionary in South America I do not mention this lightly and would not seek to do harm to a genuine servant of the Lord, but this guy is just too visible and spends too much time spreading his name and fame across the net to be viable. Plus, in my humble opinion, true missionaries do not spam any and every email address they can get their hands on asking for money and Bibles. If he is the real thing then may the Lord bless his efforts. But if he is what I suspect, he is cursed with a curse as was Simon Bar-Jesus.

  18. There were press reports in October that she is being tortured in jail. http://tribune.com.pk/story/272192/blasphemy-convict-aasia-bibi-tortured-in-jail-sources/
Two years on she is still in jail and still sentenced to death. Two senior politicians who stood against these laws have been assassinated for their views. Pakistan has a lot to sort out and her immediate release with acquittal is one of them. Where are all the human rights activists when there are real, serious violations?
