Knocking on the door to Number 10
Letting people know who we are!
Our thanks to Peter Norris from Christian Concern who came out to support our protest!
I even wore the T-shirt- we need to have the strength of conviction shown by Asia Bibi!
If you are not aware of the "Not Ashamed" campaign please log onto www.notashamed.org.uk.
We had to plea for permission to take these photographs - we wanted to illustrate that being Christian is not something to be ashamed of.
Despite the cold we came out to represent Christ!
Despite a prior arrangement for collection of our petition by an officer of the High Commission, in the end, we were instructed to hand it in at the reception.
Today has been a very eventful day our petitions have both been submitted. The count on submission was 2662 signatures, however that figure has now risen to 2724 signatories. We would urge people to continue signing so that we can illustrate the immensity of opposition to the cruel ruling. Our petition can be found at the top of our blog.
The officials at 10 Downing Street treated us with great respect, yet our visit to the Pakistan Embassy was fraught with bad feeling. We were made to wait in excess of 1 hour and then were informed by an official that the petition should be submitted to the reception desk. This was very perturbing as Asia Bibi's life is at stake and yet the Office of the High Commission seemed to be non-plussed about enfolding events.
We are extremely grateful, however, to Rubab Mehdi Rhizvi the spokesperson for the newly formed Ministry of Human Rights, who has been working with us in trying to find a positive outcome to a most heinous situation. We hope to release good news regarding the efforts of Rubab in conjunction with the BPCA and the Christian Muslim Forum who came to our assistance after we contacted their Chief Executive Julian Bond.
Premier Christian Radio interviewed us this morning and a shorter version of the recording can be listened to by clicking on the link below:
We were also interviewed by BBC Asian Network and would encourage readers to listen to their 18:00 news programme. Litt Media have covered the story on Buzz Asia and Sunrise Radio from the morning.
The pope called for the respect of "Human Dignity" in the case of Asia Bibi and others facing similar persecution. This was published in "The Dawn" newspaper yesterday:
