  1. Dear Mr. Wilson Chowdhry,

Please accept my expression of sorrow for the murder of Minister Shahbhaz Bhatti, the fruit of a longstanding injustice to non-Muslims in Pakistan about which every politician in the country has known for years and on which every politician could have acted, an injustice which has caused a continual litany of suffering among Pakistan’s Christians.

I pray for justice and peace for all Pakistan’s religious communities.

My father died in a Nazi concentration camp and I was incarcerated in the Nazi camp system as a child because he was a Jew. During my student days I spent three and a half months enrolled as a medical student at the University of Peshawar, where my Pakistani Muslim fellow students did make me aware of the degrading status of Christians who worked as nurses caring for Muslim patients. It is my belief that people of all religions who suffer oppression and violence should support each other across religious boundaries and state clear principles the breach of which must place perpetrators outside acceptable morality whatever their religious claims.

    Best wishes,

    Martin Stern
